Mum believes in 'unlimited' screen time and no bed time – but she has one rule

Deciding on the way you want to parent and raise your children is a big thing to make. While some might opt to be more strict, with set dinner and bed times and focusing on limiting screen times, others might choose to go in a more relaxed approach when deciding on whether or not these stricter rules are right for their families.

While there's no set right or wrongs, according to experts, some can be quick at criticising others if they opt for a different ways of raising their children. Single mum-of-four Jeri-Leah has grown a following of over 130,000 people on where she shares videos of her everyday life as a mum, including clips of her cleaning her house as well as other DIY hacks.

In one video which has gone viral with more than 10.7 million views in two weeks, Jeri-Leah shows herself deep cleaning her daughter's room while explaining her controversial parenting move of only having one rule her children need to follow. She also went on to explain that she's decided to ignore screen times, or set dinners and instead letting the children decide these things for themselves from a young age.

"Come and deep clean my daughter's room with me while I tell you about our house rules, because if my cleaning's controversial, then my house rules probably are as well," she said at the start of the video as she's seen seen mopping the carpet of her daughter's room.

"Number one, you don't have to tidy, I will do that. I don't mind," she said. "I'll put your clothes away, I'll wash your clothes. That's my job, I'm your mum, I'm gonna mother you. Let me smother you."

"So, also, if you don't like it, don't eat it," she said. "I will happily cook four different for four different people. I don't mind, I have girl dinner every night. I barely eat, I forget to eat. So if you guys wanna go and get snacks, go and get as many snacks as you want. Snacks are unlimited."

"So, you don't have any rules. You can go in the cupboards, in the fridge and have whatever you want," she said.

She continued to list other things, saying: "Screen time? Unlimited. You can have as much screen time as you'd want. Bedtimes? We don't have them. Half of the kids sleep with me. Four in the bed and the little ones said roll over. I don't mind."

"Erm, what else... You could live with me forever," she continued. "You don't have to eat what's on your plate. You don't have to clean and tidy. You can go on your phone whenever you want. Get as many snacks as you'd like. I can't think of any more. Bed times, we don't have those. We are a very lenient house."

However, she then went on to reveal the one rule she makes sure all her children has to follow when they're out and about.

She explained: "If you wanna swear, swear. I say sh*t, you can say sh*t. But when we're out and about in the general public, please don't do that. They know that. They wouldn't swear in front of nanny. That's not okay. But the rules we have in the house - non existent."

After having opened up about the non-existent rules, thousands of people took to the comments to share their thoughts, with many having split opinions about the matter.

One person defended the mum by saying: "People don't realise that if your rules are hella strict, your children will rebel against these rules. If there are barely any rules, like bedtimes they will learn that if they sleep at 2am they will be tired for school in the morning, and will have to go."

Another added: "No food rules = healthy relationship with food. Good on you!" While a third person said: "My parents raised me this way and I turned out way better than a lot of my friends. I tell my parents everything never snuck out of the house and asked if I could go to parties."

However, others criticised the mum's parenting choice, with one person saying: "I agree with those but they have got to at least clean up after their self."

Another person added: "As much as I love how lenient you are, I'd love some rules, discipline is sometimes a blessing in disguise."
